What's best for muscle growth: protein or carbohydrates?

Mar 2, 2023

Everyone seems to know about protein needed for building muscle, but don’t skimp on the carbohydrate either.

In the post-workout window, (if you aim to build muscle), you do require more carbohydrates than protein, as carbohydrates break down to sugar. Sugar is the fuel source that your muscles prefer to use for weight training.

Protein is the ingredient muscles need to repair, grow and build bigger muscles.

So: If you fail to eat the right amount of protein and overeat carbs, you will convert most of that excess energy into body fat.

If you train hard and eat a low-protein diet, you will not grow even if you overeat on carbohydrates all day long.
